Biography

Marc Garfinkle (J.D., ’78, Hastings College of the Law) is a long-time trial lawyer whose practice is limited to attorney ethics and discipline, bar admission, and judicial conduct. In addition to his practice, Marc is Public Defender in Livingston and Adj. Prof. of Persuasion and Advocacy at Seton Hall Law School.

Better known to Lawline.com audiences for his courses about Ethics or Solo and Small Firm concerns, Marc (who was a solo from the start) taught himself Haitian Creole, and, for over a decade, was the only such lawyer in New Jersey. His experience in that, and in the Francophone-African communities of New Jersey, opened his eyes to the value of being a big fish in a small pond.

A prolific writer for attorneys, his best-known book is $olo Contendere:  How to Go Directly from Law School into the Practice of Law without Getting a Job, 3rd ed., (©2009, 2013 Solo Contendere Press), the publication that launched him from complete anonymity into utter obscurity.

Marc truly enjoys working with Lawline.com and looks forward to this event.
