I began my law enforcement career with the Illinois Bureau of Investigation, Organized Crime Unit, in 1970. I subsequently trained newer agents in undercover narcotics, organized crime, and public corruption cases. I worked these cases and collaborated prosecutions with other local and federal jurisdictions to develop viable prosecutions. Around February 1975 I joined the United States Treasury Department, IRS Narcotic Trafficking Unit where I expanded my knowledge of investigating the finances in narcotics and public corruption as they related to drug investigations. I later transferred to the Illinois Department of Public Aid, Bureau of Special Investigations-Major Medical Fraud Unit- where I continued building expertise in financial crimes (collaborating with the FBI to convict nations largest abortion biller) . In 1980 I joined the Chicago Police Department (CPD) to become a plain clothes tactical officer and attend law school. In 1983 I was transferred, using my background, to teach law in their training academy. I graduated law school in 1987 and passed the bar. I took a leave of absence from CPD to join the Cook County States Attorneys Office as an Assistant States Attorney (ASA). By agreement our agencies allowed sonority to continue accruing while so deployed. I became a "First Chair" lead prosecutor in the felony trial division in 1995 and Joined the United States Attorneys Office-Southern District of Indiana. After various assignments in Main Justice, including world wide assignments in the Caribbean(trained prosecutors and police in violent crimes, gangs and corruption), Iraq(Asst. Commander LAOTF) and South Sudan(trained financial crime and public corruption investigators) I purchased back my federal time from the IRS and retired from federal service in June 2015. I retired from CPD a few years earlier as they also allowed me to stay on leave for a while during my federal service.
