Overview
Many lawyers believe that sexual harassment has been eradicated in the legal profession through the use of policies and training programs. But we still hear about incidents in law firms, corporations, and other employment settings. To determine what people in the legal profession are actually experiencing, Women Lawyers On Guard conducted a nationwide survey and published its report, Still Broken: Sexual Harassment and Misconduct in the Legal Profession, exposing the fallacy in the belief that we have conquered sexual harassment just because we are lawyers. The findings are disturbing. The extent and breadth of harassment and misconduct in the profession are insidious and alarming. For instance, 86% of current incidents of sexual harassment are not reported. And in 50% of the situations that are reported, there are no consequences to the harasser.
Participants will gain an overview of the law of sexual harassment and also hear about some ways to address this workplace problem.
Learning Objectives:
- Examine the results of Women Lawyer's On Guard's nationwide survey of the experiences with sexual harassment and misconduct of people in the legal profession, currently and historically
- Gain an overview of the law of sexual harassment
- Identify recommendations for additional ways to address this problem
