Overview
Every lawyer and legal professional will encounter traumatized clients during the course of their career, but how many are mislabeled as a "difficult" client? This course explains the biology of trauma on the brain and body, and how trauma translates into symptoms legal professionals encounter daily.
Presenters Michael F. Barnes and Patrick A. Barnes will discuss the trauma-informed legal practice and what steps legal practitioners can take to improve their relationships with clients, avoid excessive re-traumatization, and combat compassion fatigue and secondary trauma within the law firm.
This course is intended for any legal professional interested in transforming their practice by becoming informed on trauma, its symptoms, and its effects on the lawyer, the client, and legal staff.
Learning Objectives:
Identify how trauma affects the brain biologically
Explore symptoms of trauma in their clients
Prepare for interactions with traumatized clients
Mitigate the effects of secondary trauma and compassion fatigue on your firm
Identify best practices for all types of legal professionals when representing a traumatized client

This was excellent! Every lawyer has to deal with this reality at some point
Fascinating mix of the legal and psychological aspects of practicing law, which was enhanced (in my opinion) by the father-son relationship. I've dealt with crisis negotiation in law enforcement for many years and found this extremely insightful.
This is not in my field but it was a great reminder about compassion
Very helpful.
I highly recommend. As an attorney who is now a traumatized client and victim of war, I strongly agree with the observations and advice given here.
