Overview
Once kids reach a certain age, they start using social media, have access to drugs and alcohol, get their driver's licenses, and then go off to college with even more risks. It's not easy for parents and other adults to talk about these topics with children, but it is imperative that they do. And they have to say more than "Stay out of trouble" and "Do the right thing."
This course, presented by student defense and criminal law expert Scott Limmer, provides a detailed examination of the legal consequences that arise from youth involvement with social media, drugs, alcohol, and driving. It also addresses the complexities young people face as they transition to college life. Participants will gain a robust understanding of both the school disciplinary systems and the juvenile justice system, highlighting the potential legal repercussions of various infractions. The course offers practical guidance on counseling parents and youth on preventive measures and effective legal responses should infractions occur.
The first part of a 2-part series, this program draws from the content of Scott Limmer's book "Keeping Kids Safe and Out of Trouble," which is included in the materials for this program.
