Independent Expenditures and Super Pacs: Recent Developments and Best Practices to Build Your Political Program

This program will discuss independent-expenditure and independent-expenditure-only PACs or (super PACs as they are called) and how they can be used to support or oppose candidates.

This program will help nonprofits, corporations, trade associations, and individuals understand how they can make independent expenditures and create and operate a super PAC to support political candidates at the federal, state, and local levels.

Learning Objectives:

1. Review the difference between contributions and expenditures, and how individuals, nonprofits, and corporations may make unlimited contributions to a super PAC to support or oppose candidates
   

2. Discuss what it means to impermissibly "coordinate" with a candidate, and what interactions are permissible

3. Explain disclosure related to independent expenditures and super PACs, including recent developments in the law at the federal, state, and local levels
