How Your Clients Can Carry: Gun Laws Throughout the United States

Millions of Americans now have carry permits that allow them to lawfully carry handguns in public.  Others live in states where a permit is not required for an individual to legally carry concealed or openly.  Tens of millions more living in some of our country's most populous states may see their state laws changed this year in light of a case now pending before the U.S. Supreme Court.  This class will cover the major legal issues involved in the lawful carry of firearms.  A companion class offered by Lawline - Basic Self Defense Law 101 - will deal with the laws governing the use of deadly force in defense of self or others.

Ms. Gervase will discuss:

• What is means for a state to be "must issue" or "shall issue" versus "may issue"

• The permitting process in those states requiring a government-issued permit

• Who is prohibited from carrying a firearm regardless of what type of carry laws a state has

• Permit suspensions and revocations

• "Sensitive places" where firearms carry is restricted 

• Interstate travel

• Tips for keeping firearms carriers out of trouble
