Overview

On November 1, 2023, the United States Sentencing Commission amended the Federal Sentencing Guidelines for the first time in over five years. The amendments have already had a meaningful impact on federal sentences, particularly for white-collar criminal defendants and those with no prior criminal history.

In this course, presented by Paul Coggins and Jennifer McCoy, we will discuss each amendment and provide strategies for litigating them to the benefit of your client. We will also provide strategies and advice for federal sentencing proceedings more generally. This program will benefit anyone who counsels defendants in criminal cases, white-collar or otherwise.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Review the federal sentencing process

  2. Discuss recent amendments to the United States Federal Sentencing Guidelines and how to litigate them most effectively

  3. Prepare for federal sentencing hearings through effective usage of the Federal Sentencing Guidelines

  4. Identify lessons learned from sentencings
