Overview
This program, presented by Anthony Bandiero of Blue to Gold Law Enforcement Training, will teach attendees about several emerging trends relating to search and seizure. These issues are eye-opening and fascinating, even for attorneys that don't practice criminal law. Emerging Trends is a two-part series. Part Two focuses on issues relating to motor vehicle stops.
Part Two will cover the following emerging trends:
When does questioning vehicle occupants about unrelated matters unlawfully extend the traffic stop?
When can police demand passengers identify themselves?
Can a "free air" drug K9 sniff become a "search" requiring probable cause?
This program will benefit any attorney who deals with search or seizure issues. These topics are particularly relevant to prosecutors and defense attorneys.
Learning Objectives:
Discuss circumstances under which police are authorized to expand the scope of a traffic stop
Understand when police may demand a passenger's identification
Explain when a drug K9 deployed around a vehicle will become a Fourth Amendment search
