Overview
Whatever you thought you knew about diversity and inclusion, be prepared to think again. The benefits of D&I are not well understood by legal practitioners. The practice of D&I is not well-developed in legal circles. Business executives rely on lawyers for strategic guidance. But when it comes to D&I, many lawyers simply practice strategic guardedness. It is time for lawyers to exert a leadership role in the D&I movement. But, as MLK once said, "You can't teach what you don't know. You can't lead where you won't go."
Participants will be invited to consider:
-
D&I is a relationship discipline.
-
The practice of law is grounded in relationships.
-
Relationships matter in relationship matters.
-
How to sustain a D&I effort beyond social unrest.
-
Who should lead D&I efforts and what skills do they need?
-
The six building blocks for executing D&I as a strategy.
-
Using D&I relationship skills as a business development tool.
Much of the accepted dogma of D&I is not effective nor is it sustainable. Three leading practitioners invite you to rethink the intent, the approach, and the attitudes about D&I so that it is more accessible and acceptable to more people. This will be a facilitated learning session rather than instruction.
