Overview

This program will benefit human resource managers, employment lawyers, and any company, small or large, that has employees. It is critical that employees be properly categorized and paid under the Fair Labor Standards Act to avoid substantial liability in terms of back pay and fines. Employers also must take care to properly classify independent contractors versus employees to avoid back taxes and liability to the Internal Revenue Service.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify who is covered under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) including how to categorize Exempt vs Non-Exempt Employees for purposes of Overtime

  2. Discuss Minimum Wage Laws

  3. Properly categorize an Independent Contractor versus an Employee

  4. Recognize questionable Wage & Hour Stipulations

  5. Address recent developments in Wage & Hour issues

  6. Reduce "Off-the-Clock" exposure via a hypothetical case study
