An Overview of Colorado Family Law

This course, led by attorney Giugi Carminati, provides an overview of Colorado domestic relations cases (family law). This one-hour lecture covers marriage formation, divorce, parenting responsibilities (custody), decision making, maintenance (alimony), child custody, third-party investigations, and the domestic relations discovery process.

This course is designed to provide a roadmap for new practitioners who want to get a lay of the land when handling family law cases in Colorado.

Learning Objectives:

1. Address the requirements (such as age) for a marriage in Colorado, including common law marriage
2. Define annulment and its particular set of requirements
3. Break down the divorce process and identify important documents and milestones in the divorce process, such as sworn financial statements
4. Identify issues involved in child support and maintenance determinations
