Connecticut CLE Requirements for Attorneys

Attorneys who were admitted prior to the current calendar year are considered "experienced" and are subject to the MCLE requirements of Connecticut.

Experienced Attorneys must complete 12 CLE credit hours every year, including at least 2 in Ethics or Professionalism.  

Accepted course formats include:

• Online courses (Webcasts, Webinars, On Demand Videos, etc.)
• Audio courses
• Live Traditional Classroom
• Video Conferences

Note: Neither the Connecticut Judicial Branch nor the Commission on Minimum Continuing Legal Education approves or accredits CLE providers or activities. It is the opinion of Lawline that the courses listed for Connecticut credit on our site qualify toward the annual CLE requirement. 

Yes! Connecticut attorneys can receive credit for:

• Speaking or teaching an accredited CLE program. Attorneys may earn CLE credits for teaching a CLE program. Credits are calculated based on one credit for every two hours of preparation time, with a maximum of 6 CLE credits for one program.
• Teaching law courses at an ABA-accredited law school. Full-time professors will be credited for the full MCLE requirements. Part-time or adjunct professors will receive 1 credit for every 60 minutes of classroom instruction and 1 credit for every 120 minutes of preparation.
• Publishing legal research-based writing. Attorneys can receive CLE credit for writing articles for a legal publication or for writing a book. The amount of credit given is based on the amount of time the attorney spent on drafting the writing.
• Judging or coaching a moot court or mock trial course or competition that is part of an ABA law school. Attorneys can receive up to 4 CLE credits per cycle.
  

All credits must be completed by December 31st.

Yes! 2 credits (general or ethics) may be carried over to the next reporting period.
