Missouri CLE Requirements for Attorneys

Missouri attorneys are required to complete 15 CLE credits, including:

• At least 3 in Ethics
  • At least 1 of the above must be in Elimination of Bias 

Note: Missouri attorneys are not required to complete the CLE requirement during the year in which they were admitted. 

Attorneys can fulfill their CLE requirements by taking courses that have been individually approved by the Missouri Bar, or that are offered by providers who have been granted presumptive approval. Some approved formats include:

Live

• Live Webcasts
• Live-In-Person
• Telephone Conference

Self-Study (Maximum 6 credits per year)

• On Demand Video
• On Demand Audio
• Advanced Sheets

Note: Ethics and Elimination of Bias credits cannot be completed via Self-Study.

Yes! Missouri Attorneys can receive credit for:

• Teaching approved CLE activities: Attorneys can receive 1 CLE credit per 50 minutes of presentation time and 1 CLE credit per 50 minutes of preparation time when teaching an approved CLE course. Attorneys can earn up to 15 CLE credits of preparation time for each 50 minutes of presentation.
• Writing: Attorneys can receive credit for writing material that is published by an accredited sponsor, identified sponsor, professional journal, or as a monograph. CLE credits are earned for actual research and writing time for a maximum of 15 CLE credits per published piece. Attorneys cannot be compensated in order to receive credit.  
• Serving as a member of the general assembly: Attorneys that are members of the general assembly may report 15 CLE credits for service during the associated year’s regular legislative session.

Missouri attorneys must complete their CLE requirement by June 30th.

Yes! Attorneys can carry over excess live credits earned, including Ethics, into the next reporting year.

Note: Self-study courses cannot be carried over.

Missouri attorneys can fulfill their entire CLE requirement on Lawline by completing a combination of Live Webcasts and On Demand courses. Attorneys can complete up to 6 General credits via On Demand courses, and the remaining 9 credits, including Ethics and Elimination of Bias, via Live Webcasts. Alternatively, MO attorneys can complete their entire 15 credit requirement via Live Webcasts.
