Idaho CLE Requirements for Attorneys

Experienced Attorneys in Idaho are those who have been admitted to practice for more than one year.

Experienced Idaho Attorneys must complete at least 30 credits of CLE, including at least 3 credits in Ethics or Professional Responsibility, every three years.

Attorneys can fulfill their ID CLE Requirements by attending 30 hours of approved CLE classes. CLE programs may be offered in the following formats:

• Self Study (Limited to no more than 15 CLE credits per reporting period)

  • On Demand Video CLE

  • On Demand Audio CLE

  • Computer or Internet Based Self-Study CLE

• Live

  • Interactive Webcast CLE

  • Interactive Video Teleconference CLE

  • Recorded video or audio replay of a CLE program with a qualified moderator to answer questions

  • Traditional in-person CLE program in a classroom setting

Yes! Idaho attorneys can receive credit for:

• Preparing for and teaching an accredited CLE program. Attorneys earn 3 CLE credits for each 60 minutes of presentation.

• Publishing legal writing (Limited to 6 credits per reporting period). Attorneys can earn 1 CLE credit for each 1000 words published if the writing contributes to the attorney’s own legal education, is geared specifically toward an attorney audience, and is an original writing that is published either electronically or in print.
  

Yes! Idaho attorneys who primarily practice in another state may use their MCLE compliance from other states to meet the MCLE requirements of ID. Please see the State Bar Website for further information about how this is done.

Attorneys in ID must complete their CLE requirement on or before December 31st of the third year of their reporting period.

Reporting periods are determined for attorneys based on when they were admitted to the ID Bar. Once an attorney is admitted to the Bar, their reporting period begins on their date of admission and ends on December 31st of the third full calendar year following admission. Their reporting period is every 3 calendar years thereafter.

No. Attorneys cannot carry over any credits from one reporting period to the next.

Attorneys can complete all 30 credits on Lawline through a combination of On Demand (maximum 15 credits) and  Live Webcast programs. Please note that attorneys will need to self-apply for credit of our Live Webcast programs.

In Idaho, the providers of approved CLE programs are responsible for reporting attendance to the Board.

Lawline will automatically report your completion of this course after you claim credit to Idaho. We report weekly on Tuesdays. Please ensure that your bar number is filled out and correct in your profile and allow up to 5 business for your credits to be processed by the State Bar.

Idaho attorneys certify compliance by submitting to the Board a Written Certificate of Compliance.  This form is provided to Idaho attorneys at the end of their reporting period, and includes all completed courses from the current reporting period.

The Certificate of Compliance must be submitted on or before February 1st immediately following the reporting period.
