Amy E. Mitchell is a transactional lawyer based in Austin, Texas who practices entertainment law with a focus on music, television, and film law issues. She has been licensed to practice law in Texas since 2004 and reviews, structures, and negotiates deals in the entertainment industry for emerging artists, entrepreneurs, and established figures in the performing arts. 

A musician herself, Amy began her legal career focusing on music - representing talent, licensing content, and handling complex digital distribution matters. In 2011, she branched out into independent film, television, and podcast production work. Her firm assists with rights clearances and provides production and distribution counsel services for movies, television shows, podcasts, and multimedia productions. In this position, Amy has operated as legal counsel for dozens of independent narrative films and documentaries and has served as outside music counsel for the PBS music television program Austin City Limits for more than a decade.

Amy is very active in the professional entertainment law community in Texas. In 2009, Amy was elected to serve on the Council of the State Bar of Texas Entertainment and Sports Law Section (TESLAW), holding many leadership positions during her nine-year tenure including the role of Chair from 2016-2017. In 2013, Amy successfully spearheaded efforts to charter an entertainment law section for the Austin Bar Association (ESLABA), which she chaired for four years. She currently serves on the Council for both TESLAW and ESLABA as well as Director at Large for the Austin Bar Association’s Solo & Small Firm Section. Amy was the Course Director for the Entertainment Law 101 program held in conjunction with the Entertainment Law Institute (ELI) for 6 years and is currently serving as Course Director for the 33rd Annual Entertainment Law Institute.

Amy obtained both her Bachelor of Arts and her Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.

When she is not practicing law, Amy enjoys spending time with her husband and three children and performing in several Austin ensembles.
